MTB Tour of the Swiss National Park (5 days, 4 nights)
Graubünden is a mountain bike paradise. The use of the generous natural resources is fundamentally different in this region. In Graubünden, "slow tourism" is not only an utopian notion used by a few journalists or politicians but a reality. The development of the natural potential in order to facilitate the non-motorized activities like hiking, biking, fishing, kayaking, is a tangible reality. The number of uninhabited valleys is high, and the fact that motorized traffic is heavily regulated, and often prohibited benefit the outdoor aficionados. The tranquility is preserved and the wild beauty of mountainous landscapes is prodigious.
The Swiss National Park, founded in 1914, is the oldest in the Alps. Epic Europe has created a fully-supported itinerary that tours the National Park and will provide you the ultimate biking experience at the border between Switzerland and Italy.
Proposed itinerary
Day 1:
Transfer from ZH airport to St-Moritz region
Visit of the village
Dinner & Overnight in St-Moritz region
Day 2: Scuol-Santa Maria
Lower Engadine - Val Müstair (38 km - 1025m D +)
Scuol - Val San Charl - Pass da Costainas - Lü - Santa Maria
Start off from the lovely village of Scuol and gain the sumptuous Val San Charl that reveals countless and stunning natural charms: its high pastures, deep forests of pines and stone pines, and especially for mountain bikers, its amazing gently slopes and phenomenal final single-track. The ascent to the Pass da Costainas is a succession of wonderful landscapes as few spots in the Alps are likely to offer. At each turn of the narrow valley, the spirit of the biker is exalted by the beauty of the landscapes as his muscles are "doped" by the incredible potential of the trail. Overnight in Santa-Maria.
Day 3: Santa Maria-Livigno
Val Müstair - Valle di Livigno (36 km - 1045m D +)
Santa Maria - Val Vau - Val Mora - Passo Val Mora - Passo di Fraele - Val Alpisella - Passo Val Alpisella - Lago di Livigno
The crossing to Italy via his sublime cross-border route will turn into an incredible feast for the senses. If the ascent through the vast forests of Val Vau is above all a significant exercise, crossing the upper valley of Val Mora is a delight for the eyes. The landscapes are breathtaking, while the steep paths is a sweet wish. Mountain biking is magnified as anywhere else. The endless descent into the blue waters of Lago di San Giacomo Fraele, is just a real "killer" so his single-track winding through gorges and forests of conifers is phenomenal. After that, the terrible ascent to the Passo Alpisella is ultimately anecdotal, as the great images of the first part are still in the mind of the tired mountain biker. The final descent, a dive into the Lago di Livigno and the arrival in the beautiful transalpine resort of the same name, are like the icing on the cake of an extraordinary day. Overnight in Livigno.
Day 4: Livigno-Susch
Valle di Livigno - Lower Engadine (41 km - 930m D +)
Livigno - Valle di Federia - Chaschauna Pass - Val Chaschauna - San Chanf - Zernez - Susch
Even assuming the heights of Livigno, the terrible ascent of 2'694 meters Pass Chaschauna keeps all its promises. A narrow and stiff track, paved with fleeing and unstable gravel, can undermine motivation, fitness and technique of any mountain biker but the return to Switzerland promises good surprises. At first the technical but then flowy trail on the north side of the pass is a good reward. Then the long descent through the forests of Val Chaschauna is necessarily related to a sweet respite, allowing the biker to take some speed. A final "rolling downhill" toward Zernez and Susch, where a delicious beer is waiting the happy biker. Transfer back to St-Moritz. Overnight in St-Moritz.
Day 5 - St-Moritz
Few relaxing days or departure of the clients
